Friday Face-Off is an idea originally thought up by Books By Proxy which I stole from the fantastic The Tattooed Book Geek. The idea originally was to compare UK and US covers based on an assigned theme each week and choose the winning cover. I will be twisting it slightly: not specifically US and UK covers, just different editions.
This week’s theme is a cover with fruit: “Oranges and lemons say the bells of St Clements”.
Initially I struggled to think of something for this week’s challenge. But after a few minutes the perfect, and frankly fairly obvious choice – the great Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach.
Cover A:
Cover B:
Cover C:
Cover D:
Cover E:
Cover F:
Cover G:
Cover H:
Cover I:
And the winner is… COVER E!
Whenever I think of a Roald Dahl book, I always link that to the illustrations of Quentin Blake. From James and the Giant Peach, to The Witches and The Twits, Blake’s illustrations bring Dahl’s stories to life
What are your thoughts? Do you agree with my winner, or does one of the others work better for you? Let me know in the comments!
Next week’s theme: 9th December – “Souls meets soul on lovers’ lips” – a cover with lips.
Agree, was close call betwedn D and E but think you right on this one

Cover C is the one I have and grew up with.

I had never seen that one before. Here in the UK many of Roald Dahl’s books were illustrated by Quentin Blake so all had a common style. For me Blake’s art and Dahl’s stories go hand in hand.

I totally agree with the Quentin Blake sentiment! I do like D a little bit better than E, though…a bit cleaner but still the correct proportions (Peach-wise) 🙂

I have to say it was a close one for me between D and E.

Well, this looks like an awesome choice of book my good Sir, it’s the same as mine!😀
I picked Cover A, there was just something about the simple style I preferred though most of the covers are all appealing to.
