Friday Face-Off is an idea originally thought up by Books By Proxy which I stole from the fantastic The Tattooed Book Geek. The idea originally was to compare UK and US covers based on an assigned theme each week and choose the winning cover. I will be twisting it slightly: not specifically US and UK covers, just different editions.
This week’s theme is a cover with lips: “Souls meets soul on lovers’ lips”.
For this week’s cover I have gone with Memoirs of a Geisha.
Cover A:
Cover B:
Cover C:
Cover D:
Cover E:
And the winner is… COVER C!
Something about Cover C really caught my eye. It struck me as being very simple with the predominance of the white, but the pop of red was really eye catching. The style of the makeup seemed more realistic as well, rather than the overly done full red on other covers.
What are your thoughts? Do you agree with my winner, or does one of the others work better for you? Let me know in the comments!
Next week’s theme: 16th December – “Give a girl the right shoes and she can
conquer the world” – a cover with shoes.
Yes, I thought Cover C too – much more immediate, visceral and simple.

I’m a Japan fan so as soon as there’s Japanese art of any kind on a cover, I’m attracted. Therefore B.
