Friday Face-Off is an idea originally thought up by Books By Proxy which I stole from the fantastic The Tattooed Book Geek. The idea originally was to compare UK and US covers based on an assigned theme each week and choose the winning cover. I will be twisting it slightly: not specifically US and UK covers, just different editions.
This week’s theme is a cover featuring a book or books: “A room without books is like a body without a soul.”
This week’s selection is Chris Grabenstein’s Escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s Library.
Cover A:
Cover B:
Cover C:
Cover D:
And the winner is… cover A!
I thought cover A had a quirky, fun feel about it. It’s got a lot of energy running through it too. I think cover D is a close second for me, with its bright colours, and interesting border images.
What are your thoughts? Do you agree with my winner, or does one of the others work better for you? Let me know in the comments!
Next week will be looking for a cover featuring a hotel: “Welcome to the Hotel California! Such a lovely place. Such a lovely face. Plenty of space at the Hotel California.”
I agree with you exactly – A followed by D. Cover C would put me off, looks too manic.
