The Friday Face-Off is a meme originally created by Books by Proxy and now hosted over at Lynn’s Books. The idea is to compare the different covers of a book with each week being a certain theme.
This week’s Friday Face-Off theme is a cover that is Halloweeny: “I’ve seen enough horror movies to know that any weirdo wearing a mask is never friendly.” The book for this week is The Woman in Black by Susan Hill.
Cover A Cover B Cover C Cover D Cover E Cover F Cover G Cover H Cover I
And the winner is… COVER G!
I love the watercoulour design on this one. The use of a dark palette lends itself to a grim atmosphere. There is a haunting vibe to the appearance of the woman. The lifeless eyes are haunting. This one was an easy win for me this week.
What are your thoughts? Do you agree with my winner, or does one of the others work better for you? Let me know in the comments!
Next week’s theme is a cover that depicts something creepy or scary to me: “I’m not afraid of death; I just don’t want to be there when it happens.”
Neat to see many variations of the cover. I like the illustration in Cover G, but I prefer Cover B — I think Cover B does a better job overall. If the author’s name in Cover G was in a different font, I might’ve picked that one as the winner.

Cover F – love the gothic style of the cover and the black and white makes it quite creepy.
