Friday Face-Off – 5th November 2021

The Friday Face-Off is a meme originally created by Books by Proxy and now hosted over at Lynn’s Books. The idea is to compare the different covers of a book with each week being a certain theme.

This week’s Friday Face-Off theme is a cover from a sci-fi novel: “Nothing travels faster than the speed of light, with the possible exception of bad news, which obeys its own special laws.” For this week’s Friday Face-Off theme I have picked William Gibson’s Neuromancer.

And the winner is… COVER E!

This one is not one I’ve read, but many of these covers are really eye-catching. It was a tougher choice this week than the last few. Cover E really caught my eye, the sense of it being a looming, oppressive cyberpunk city. Something about the enclosed space and a small patch of open offering a sense of hope in the bleakness.

What are your thoughts? Do you agree with my winner, or does one of the others work better for you? Let me know in the comments!

Next week’s theme is a cover with a book whose title features the word star: “When it is dark enough, you can see the stars.”

  1. Great choice of book for the week! I read “Neuromancer” this year and enjoyed it. For the covers — I really like cover E for the uneasiness I feel with the photo’s perspective. However, I kept going back to cover G for its order moving into disorder by just using the title. So it’s a tie with those two covers for me.
