I purchased a copy of this book for my own reading.
I had held off from reading this book, fully expecting it to be the standard celebrity author fare. An okay read with nothing too much to write home about. With the release of the recent Netflix film with a star-studded cast, I decided now would be the time to give the book a chance.

Having enjoyed the film, the book did not disappoint. If you’re looking for a deep, twisting mystery filled with thrills and shock, I’d say this isn’t it. If you want dark comedy, cosy crime and humour, then this is a fantastic read. It follows a group of retirees in a retirement village that meet every Thursday to discuss unsolved murders from the past – The Thursday Murder Club. When the owner of the retirement village seeks to sell some of the land and build on it, tempers flare leading to protests from the residents.
When a body appears, that of Tony who is known around the village, the Thursday Murder Club take it upon themselves to solve the crime, despite the protestations of PC Donna De Freitas and DCI Chris Hudson. As the bodies continue to come, the unlikely group of crime busters work with their long-suffering police counterparts to solve the crime in ways the police would never manage.
It’s an entertaining read with a fun cast of characters. I, personally, thoroughly enjoyed the fact that we get third person accounts of the story from the perspective of different characters along with the first person diary entries from Joyce, the newest member of the club. It’s a simple read that is easy to dive into with an entertaining story and a fantastic mystery with a wonderful cast of fun characters each with their own quirks and mysteries.
