The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman

Elizabeth has received a letter from an old colleague, a man with whom she has a long history. He’s made a big mistake, and he needs her help. His story involves stolen diamonds, a violent mobster, and a very real threat to his life.

As bodies start piling up, Elizabeth enlists Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron in the hunt for a ruthless murderer. And if they find the diamonds too? Well, wouldn’t that be a bonus?

But this time they are up against an enemy who wouldn’t bat an eyelid at knocking off four septuagenarians. Can The Thursday Murder Club find the killer (and the diamonds) before the killer finds them?

I purchased a copy of this book for my own reading.

I enjoyed the Thursday Murder Club so much that I dove straight into the second book. With five out to date, buckle in for a run of reviews for these books! The second book picks up following the events of book one, with the intrepid group of septuagenarians finding trouble and using their skills and unorthodox methods to solve new grisly crimes.

The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman

When Elizabeth receives communication that her ex-husband and fellow spy of old is moving into Cooper’s Chase, she sets out on a path that leads to The Thursday Murder Club’s latest case. This entry involves a rash mistake involving valuable diamonds stolen from a criminal fixer and their American mob owner. The bodies continue to pile up as they uncover the mystery surrounding the diamonds and their shady owners, and the scope of the mistake made by Elizabeth’s ex-husband.

Another fantastic entry in the series, we get to know the characters more throughout the case, while introducing new characters. I’ve seen other readers say the find it difficult to get to know the characters thanks to Osman’s approach of telling the story from different perspectives. I really like the approach, feeling that we peel back layers of the characters over time while still getting enough on each new character to enjoy the book. This second book in the series only strengthened my enjoyment of the series and my need to push on to the next book.
