The Last Devil to Die by Richard Osman

Shocking news reaches the Thursday Murder Club.

An old friend in the antiques business has been killed, and a dangerous package he was protecting has gone missing.

As the gang springs into action they encounter art forgers, online fraudsters and drug dealers, as well as heartache close to home.

With the body count rising, the package still missing and trouble firmly on their tail, has their luck finally run out? And who will be the last devil to die?

I purchased a copy of this book for my own reading.

The fourth entry in the Thursday Murder Club series takes a somewhat darker turn than the usual cosy crime we’ve come to expect from the series. With the team working on the murder of an old friend, Elizabeth also wrangles with the struggles of her husband’s worsening dementia.

The Last Devil to Die by Richard Osman

The murder spans a group of possible suspects including drug dealers, smugglers and art forgers for good measure. As if all this wasn’t enough, the team work to help a new resident to the residential community who appears to find himself the victim of an online romance fraud scam.

Osman keeps the action moving and still retains the cosy humour that has become synonymous with this series, while also handing a deeper subject. He touches on the theme of dementia that has been an element of the story for Stephen throughout. This time, he broaches the topic of assisted dying and the ethics as part of the side narrative of this book. With a fantastic crime caper, and its deeper elements, the energy of the series continues with this read.
