Friday Face-Off – 17th January 2020

The Friday Face-Off is a meme originally created by Books by Proxy and now hosted over at Lynn’s Books. The idea is to compare the different covers of a book with each week being a certain theme.

With January well underway, here’s the third Friday Face-Off of 2020. This week’s theme is a cover featuring a horizon. I’ve returned to Wilbur Smith for this theme and his novel The Leopard Hunts in Darkness.

And the winner is… COVER A!

A visually stunning and expansive horizon shot, awash with the wonderful orange shade. This is one of the more eye catching covers I’ve picked.

I found this quite an easy choice this week. It was a spectacular

What are your thoughts? Do you agree with my winner, or does one of the others work better for you? Let me know in the comments!

Next week’s theme is a cover for the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Rat.

This week’s theme is a cover that features a religious icon or temple. For this I have gone with Wilbur Smith’s River God.

And the winner is… COVER C!

The blue hue gives a cold and ominous feel to this cover. And for me, nothing comes to mind faster when I think of ancient Egypt than the pyramids.

Next week’s theme is a cover that is dark or forboding for the longest night of the year.

Friday Face-Off – 26th July 2019

The Friday Face-Off is a meme originally created by Books by Proxy and now hosted over at Lynn’s Books. The idea is to compare the different covers of a book with each week being a certain theme.

This week’s theme was meant to be a cover that is upside down. I struggled when I ran a cursory search, and with a busy week at work time ran out on me, so in recognition of recent UK temperatures I have made a unilateral decision to make the theme for this week as a cover that looks hot.

For this week’s theme I have gone with Wilbur Smith’s Desert God.

The flames on the landscape are a fairly accurate representation for how hot my house feels right now. That and I love the scene of the pyramids with the sun glowing from behind.

What are your thoughts? Do you agree with my winner, or does one of the others work better for you? Let me know in the comments!

Next week’s theme is a cover that features children: “There are children here somewhere. I can smell them.”
