Friday Face-Off is an idea originally thought up by Books By Proxy which I stole from the fantastic The Tattooed Book Geek. The idea originally was to compare UK and US covers based on an assigned theme each week and choose the winning cover. I will be twisting it slightly: not specifically US and UK covers, just different editions.
This week’s theme is a cover featuring some form of luggage: “Pack up your troubles… and… leave.”
Whilst I didn’t enjoy the book so much, I knew straight away which book I was picking for this one – Terry Pratchett’s Eric.
Cover A:
Cover B:
Cover C:
Cover D:
And the winner is… COVER B!
For the second week running cover B steals the show for me. Cover A is a very close second – it’s part of the Gollancz Collectors Library, of which I own all of until the next batch comes out shortly. A is a lovely little cover, simplistic in its design, but eye catching at the same time.
But when it comes to cover B, it’s all about colour and action and energy which I like. Cover D just doesn’t have enough going on, and crucially the luggage is covered up. And as for cover C, I just felt it reminded me more of Aladdin, and didn’t work so well for me.
What are your thoughts? Do you agree with my winner, or does one of the others work better for you? Let me know in the comments!
Next week’s theme: 16th September – “A bouquet for you m’lady” – a cover featuring a flower or flowers.
And one more small, new thing this week – I joined Bloglovin’ where you can also follow Books and Beyond Reviews. Just click the hyperlink, or the Bloglovin’ logo on the left hand sidebar!
Ah, another Pratchett book! 😀
I have to go with Cover A as my favourite, there’s just something about the simplicity that is really stunning.

I was torn. A was close to making it. Have you seen all the other covers in the same style? They are stunning!
