Friday Face-Off is an idea originally thought up by Books By Proxy which I stole from the fantastic The Tattooed Book Geek. The idea originally was to compare UK and US covers based on an assigned theme each week and choose the winning cover. I will be twisting it slightly: not specifically US and UK covers, just different editions.
This week’s theme is a cover that features a castle: “There was once a princess, who lived in the top of the highest tower.”
I wasn’t too sure where to begin with this one, but I happened upon the book Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones.
Cover A:
Cover B:
Cover C:
Cover D:
And the winner is… COVER B!
This one came down to covers B and D. These two stood out the most for me as I love the steampunk-like style to them, but there was something in cover B that spoke to me. Honourable mention goes to cover A!
What are your thoughts? Do you agree with my winner, or does one of the others work better for you? Let me know in the comments!
Next week’s theme: 21st October – “There’s no place like home! There’s no place like home! There’s no place like home!” – a cover with a house or abandoned house.
Hmmm once again I think I agree with you but found this weeks a harder choice not knowing the content of the book (I realise you are inly comparing the covers but I find it helps if I know the book lol)

It definitely is easier when I know the book but it is also fun to see a new book!

Cover B for me to, out of the five face-off posts I’ve seen today, one had a Malazan book, two have had this book and two had The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms. 😂

I have to say-this is one of the harder themes so far, so got to say I am not too surprised!

True and I found it hard to. I’m quite surprising as I’d have thought there’d have been lots of fantasy covers with castles on but there wasn’t! 😢

I like Cover B – It’s clean and pleasing to the eye.
