Friday Face-Off is an idea originally thought up by Books By Proxy which I stole from the fantastic The Tattooed Book Geek. The idea originally was to compare UK and US covers based on an assigned theme each week and choose the winning cover. I will be twisting it slightly: not specifically US and UK covers, just different editions.

This week’s theme is a cover featuring a spacecraft: “Slipped the surly bonds of Earth to touch the face of God.”

This week I picked an author I still have yet to read – Raymond Bradbury and his book, R is for Rocket.

And the winner is… cover D!

I look at cover D and feel it is evocative of how visionaries of our past imagined our future. It has a look of the 1950s and ’60s advertising. And on top of all of that, it wouldn’t look out of place in something like a childhood favourite cartoon of mine – The Jetsons. I would like to give a special mention to my second place cover, cover E.
