Friday Face-Off is an idea originally thought up by Books By Proxy which I stole from the fantastic The Tattooed Book Geek. The idea originally was to compare UK and US covers based on an assigned theme each week and choose the winning cover. I will be twisting it slightly: not specifically US and UK covers, just different editions.
This week’s theme is a cover featuring a casino: “Whisky, gambling and Ferraris are better than housework.”
This week I have returned to the worlds’ greatest spy, James Bond in his first outing, Casino Royale.
Cover A:
Cover B:
Cover C:
Cover D:
Cover E:
Cover F:
Cover G:
Cover H:
Cover I:
Cover J:
And the winner is… a draw! Covers A and F share the spoils.
Cover A put me in mind of the classic James Bond opening sequences from the films, which to me is James Bond. Cover F, on the other hand, feels a little like the calm before the inevitable storm that 007 will bring to proceedings.
What are your thoughts? Do you agree with my winner, or does one of the others work better for you? Let me know in the comments!
Next week I will be looking for a cover featuring a circus: “You can get the monkey off your back, but the circus never leaves town!”
And the winner for me is …….. most def. A, very iconic Bond style lol
