The Friday Face-Off is a meme originally created by Books by Proxy and now hosted over at Lynn’s Books. The idea is to compare the different covers of a book with each week being a certain theme.
This week’s Friday Face-Off theme is a cover featuring fire: fire: “When she awoke, the world was on fire.” This week’s book is Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.

And the winner is… IT’S A DRAW!
Cover B takes a share of the spoils this week. Where to begin? The colours. Red and black – they speak of firemen, the uniforms, the fire engines. And with that, there is the irony of what the firemen of Fahrenheit 451 really are. Then the clever design, the book also doubling as a match box. Ingenious! Cover C is the other joint winner. Those stylised flames are striking in their simplicity. The simple sillhouettes of the books within the fire only adds to the symbolism of the design in relation to the story.
What are your thoughts? Do you agree with my winner, or does one of the others work better for you? Let me know in the comments!
Next week’s theme is a cover with a car: “The paint was glossy, the car was clean, and we had a full tank of gas to us. The future was up to me, for now.”
Good stuff!
