Friday Face-Off – 17th September 2021

The Friday Face-Off is a meme originally created by Books by Proxy and now hosted over at Lynn’s Books. The idea is to compare the different covers of a book with each week being a certain theme.

This week’s Friday Face-Off theme is a cover featuring the word murder in the title: “Murder was in fact a fairly uncommon event in Ankh-Morpork, but there were a lot of suicides. Walking in the night-time alleyways of The Shades was suicide. Asking for a short in a dwarf bar was suicide. Saying ‘Got rocks in your head?’ to a troll was suicide. You could commit suicide very easily, if you weren’t careful.” This week’s book is Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz.

And the winner is… COVER E!

I love a stylised cover. The simplistic background with the stunning depiction of the magpie is eye catching. The gold ring just adds a little personality to the magpie. I love the simplicity and styling of this cover.

What are your thoughts? Do you agree with my winner, or does one of the others work better for you? Let me know in the comments!

Next week’s theme is a cover from a favourite thriller.

  1. Cover F – love the black and white picture of the magpie with the picture inside it of another magpie on what could be the fence of cemetery or an old mansion hinting at a story to be told.
