The Friday Face-Off is a meme initially created by Books by Proxy and is now hosted over at Lynn’s Books. The idea is to compare a book’s different covers with a specific theme each week.
This week’s theme is a cover that depicts the cold: “Nothing burns like the cold.” This week’s book is A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness.

And the winner is… COVER B!
This one immediately caught my eye. The stark, bare tree limbs reaching up into the cold sky, an icy blue moon shining through. It feels inherently cold and bleak. It also reminds me of the iconic album art of a favourite album of mine – Iron Maiden’s Fear of the Dark.
What are your thoughts? Do you agree with my winner, or does one of the others work better for you? Let me know in the comments!
Next week’s theme is a cover that is predominantly purple: “The sky is already purple; the first few stars have appeared, suddenly, as if someone had thrown a handful of silver across the edge of the world.”
Cover I – the icy colours and frozen background really portray ‘cold’ to me. Brrrr!
