The Friday Face-Off is a meme originally created by Books by Proxy and now hosted over at Lynn’s Books. The idea is to compare the different covers of a book with each week being a certain theme.
This weeks’ theme is a cover featuring a cloaked figure: ‘My what big teeth you have.’
For the first theme of 2018 I have picked City of Stairs by Robert Jackson Bennett.
Cover A:
Cover B:
Cover C:
Cover D:
Cover E:
Cover F:
And the winner is… COVER D!
While I really liked the cloaked figures in A and F, cover D wins overall. The art style of this cover lends something to it, while the fantasy-style of the stairs in the background is really interesting.
What are your thoughts? Do you agree with my winner, or does one of the others work better for you? Let me know in the comments!
Next weeks’ theme is a book with a retro cover: ‘Groovy baby!’
I actually like them all but they’re so very different and seem to fit different genres. A is fantasy, B and C are literary fiction, D is a kid’s book – or maybe a graphic novel, E is an adventure, and F is back to fantasy! I really don’t know which one to pick – they’re all beautiful!

I have never read the book so I have no idea which cover fits the genre. Like rileyjfround said, they are all super different. But I like F the best!

I’m a sucker for covers with cities on them… but I just so happen to really like all these covers. Hard choice! Hmm I’d probably go for either A or F if I was pushed as the’re both gorgeous and satisfy the theme 😀
