The Friday Face-Off is a meme originally created by Books by Proxy and now hosted over at Lynn’s Books. The idea is to compare the different covers of a book with each week being a certain theme.
This week’s theme is a cover that is predominantly blue: “How sweet to be a cloud, floating in the blue.”
I wasn’t looking forward to this theme too much initially, until something in my brain popped up with some recognition, a book I’d read some years ago. That book is Linwood Barclay’s Too Close To Home.
Cover A:
Cover B:
Cover C:
Cover D:
Cover E:
Cover F:
Cover G:
Cover H:
And the winner is… COVER C!
For starters, this is the cover that I own myself so that always helps. All the other covers are really ominous. I like this cover – the picket fence and postbox add a sense of comfort and homeliness. The clouds in the sky and the upwards angle from below add a subtle ominous feeling to the cover, far more subtle than the other covers.
What are your thoughts? Do you agree with my winner, or does one of the others work better for you? Let me know in the comments!
Next week’s theme is a cover featuring a party, celebration or festival: “As full of spirit as the month of May.”
I have joint winners cover A and cover E, the dark trees against the dark sky and just the lights showing through the Blue gloom are very atmospheric and pull me in
