Friday Face-Off – 7th May 2021

The Friday Face-Off is a meme originally created by Books by Proxy and now hosted over at Lynn’s Books. The idea is to compare the different covers of a book with each week being a certain theme.

This week’s Friday Face-Off theme is a cover featuring birds: “Some birds are not meant to be caged, that’s all. Their feathers are too bright, their songs too sweet and wild.” The book cover for this week’s theme is The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe.

And the winner is… IT’S A DRAW!

Cover B is stunning. Very moody with the muddy colours in the background and the simple imagery of a raven in the foreground. Cover G takes second place for me. It’s eerie in design, and the charcoal-on-paper styling only adds to this.

What are your thoughts? Do you agree with my winner, or does one of the others work better for you? Let me know in the comments!

Next week’s theme is a cover featuring mountains: “Kid, you’ll move mountains.”

  1. A draw for me too but between B and C and both for the same reason, plain and moody and very Edgar Allan Poe’ish
